Developing Capacity and Support for Open Pedagogy through SUNY Create

← Back to list of events
SUNY Create was established in 2019 to provide students at 4 public colleges in the State University of New York with the ability to develop or enhance digital skills on the open web. This project aims to develop capacity, policy, and support for open education pedagogy (OEP) in the SUNY system. SUNY Create encourages faculty and students to create public-facing resources as students demonstrate their learning. SUNY Oneonta and four other participating SUNY institutions have been piloting the use of Reclaim Hosting in an attempt to create scalable solutions for OEP. Reclaim Hosting will provide a university-controlled and customizable tool to host shared open online learning spaces. Funded by SUNY’s Innovative Instruction and Technology Grant, SUNY Oneonta took the lead in setting up a Domain of One’s Own initiative with partners at SUNY Oswego, SUNY Geneseo, and SUNY Genesee Community College. Working with an experienced Open Educator, Lee Graham their grant sought to combine Open Pedagogy with the digital fluency to set up a website, and training for the students on accessibility, web literacy, and engaging in conversations in their field on the open web. Ed’s role in the grant was setting up the shared infrastructure, providing support, and assessing the long term support model of an initiate that invites students and faculty to write what they want, where they want, and on the platform they choose.
