The ‘open/closed game’ – engaging with open educational principles while preserving the authorship of your teaching materials

Open education is defined as a way of carrying out education, often using digital technologies, which aim is to widen access and participation to everyone by removing barriers and making learning accessible, abundant, and customisable for all (EU Science Hub, European Commission, 2016, CC BY). However, many teachers are reluctant to engage in open education because of concerns around intellectual property and copyright of their own material. As part of Open Education Week 2022 (#OEWeek), this session will provide some practical advice on protecting the authorship of your teaching materials while also engaging with open education principles.
